Poznań is perceived as one of the most attractive cities for investors. It is confirmed by prestigious rankings and surveys, among others, investment attractiveness survey of the Institute for Market Economics in which the Poznań subregion has been included in the group with the highest attractiveness for high-tech, service and industrial activities or the „The European Regional Growth Index (E-REGI)” ranking conducted by Jones Lang LaSalle where Poznań became one of the top Polish attractive locations for investing in real estate market for business.

It is estimated that the value of foreign direct investments amounted in the years 1990-2013 in total to USD 7.3 billion, that is USD 13.2 thousand per capita. The metropolitan area of Poznań has the highest share in GDP creation in Wielkopolskie Province, dominating in the sphere of production, service, business environment institutions, as well as science and culture, and being a distinct pole of economic growth.

Poznań is a place of investments conducted by entrepreneurs from 32 countries in the world. According to the Statistical Office in Poznań the most capital is allocated by shareholders from Germany, the second place in terms of the size of employed capital is occupied by the Netherlands, followed by American, French, Swedish and British companies. Most investors are well-known and strong concerns with worldwide range. The group of investors that allocated in Poznań the capital exceeding USD 1 million includes more than 180 companies.

The greatest interest of investors is enjoyed by projects related to commerce and industrial production (more than 40% of the invested capital), as well as services (14%). Main trades of the industry are automotive, food and pharmaceutical trade. As a part of the services, the market of rented office spaces is developing especially dynamically.

Investors are more and more interested in projects associated with provision of common services with
the use of global IT networks. The Hacket Group in the report “Global Business Services Executive Insight” indicated the city as one of the locations creating the best conditions for creating common service centres, characterized by great activity in actions supporting the investor, project promotion and favourable costs of running business.

Currently, in Poznań alone, more than 60 BPO and R&D centres of large companies conduct their activities, including such renowned companies as: Carlsberg, Franklin Templeton, GSK, MAN, CenturyLink, IKEA, Ciber. They deal mainly with financial and accounting services, as well as IT services. New large investment projects in this field are announced. The centres of modern business services, operating in Poznań, together with the city of Poznań, execute projects addressed to potential employees of the centres: “WorkGate” (addressed to students and graduates
of universities), as well as “SSC/BPO Week” (addressed to high school pupils).

The Poznań market is also the place of operation of foreign investors, interested in housing construction, office real estate or multifunctional and hotel facilities, among others: AKMMK Development, Griffin Holdings, HMG International Development, Immobel, Longbridge, Monti, Puro Hotels, SAP Property, Skanska.

The strategy of acquisition of investors for the City of Poznań is focused on acquisition of new and support for the already operating investors in trades generating high value added, as well as generation of demand for educated and wellpaid employees in a knowledge-based economy. The priority economy sectors for the City of are: high-tech production, Business Process Offshoring, research and development, congress-exhibition activities, as well as leisure and entertainment infrastructure.
