This year Colliers International has examined interesting illuminations and selected examples of Christmas initiatives in office buildings in the biggest Polish cities. The collected data was published in a report entitled "Christmas in the city".

According to Colliers International, the number of office buildings adorned by external Christmas decorations has fallen compared with previous years. Decorative functions during the holiday season are adopted by city illuminations while office buildings focus on the organization of charitable projects and events that encourage spending time together by tenants and city residents – in line with the trend of bridging office space with urban space.

An example can be the Tri-City project Olivia Business Centre in Gdańsk ensuring a Christmas atmosphere among the staff at the office complex by offering an extensive program of events in December. The Christmas Charity Fair, the Great Christmas Ornaments Competition, the Christmas Eve Family Meeting of Olivia Business Centre Residents, the funniest Christmas sweater competition and a choral concert of Christmas carols - these are only a few attractions on the list of December’s initiatives.

The Christmas Market located on a picturesque lake is taking place in the Platinium Business Park in Mokotów. In the Warsaw building Astoria Premium Offices, the Christmas Market was also an opportunity for social activation to help others by taking part in a charity collection in collaboration with the Omnibus Foundation supporting gifted children from poor families.

In the Colliers office, the staff have been conducting for six years charity campaign supporting the children from an orphanage in Równe. The tenants from the Metropolitan building in Warsaw are involved in this action, as well those from the other office project managed by Colliers International. Children get dreamt Christmas gifts according to their wishes, and funds are earmarked for the purchase of necessities.

„During the pre-Christmas period employees are willing to get involved in charity events. It is a great opportunity for property managers and developers to build the image of the project in the eyes of tenants, clients and local community through properly planned events” – said Dominika Jędrak, director of Research and Consultancy Services, Colliers International.

In the second part of the Report its authors examine Christmas street decorations in the seven biggest Polish cities. This year's Christmas illuminations in the capital, named Warsaw Winter Dream, are the largest in Poland and one of the most impressive in Europe. The total length of this year's installation is over 20 km. The Christmas decorations include not only the city’s main streets but also places such as Lazienki Park and Wilanow Palace. The leading motifs are snowflakes and ice crystals.

The Christmas illuminations in Kraków are in the Art Deco style and are inspired by Polish folk art. Ornamental motifs, stars, balls and snowflakes dominate the decorations. A special Christmas animation is displayed on the facade of the Ratusz Tower and at Rondo Mogilskie. The theme of the Christmas street decorations in Łódź are canopies made from icicles and snow, as well as eight-pointed stars. They are concentrated within the area of Piotrkowska Street.

The leading motif of Wrocław’s Christmas decorations is the Turon star. The illuminations include 300 decorations installed in the Old Town from the city moat to Ostrów Tumski. The streets of Poznań are decorated with 600 Christmas lights with the motif of snowflakes. In Gdańsk the Christmas tree is traditionally located on Długi Targ. Stand-alone decorations are also very popular – city gate illuminations, giant balls and the Enchanted Carriage drawn by two reindeers. Katowice, apart from a 15-metre high Christmas tree, has the illuminations basing on the icicles and snowflakes symbols.
